Are you struggling with poor bladder control (leakage) when coughing, sneezing or doing other strenuous activities? Did you know 1 out of 2 women and 1 out of 4 men suffer from urinary incontinence?
You do not need to suffer! Pelvic Floor Therapy can help resolve your symptoms and regain your quality of life!
URINARY INCONTINENCE
Urinary Incontinence occurs when there is a leakage of urine due to an increase in pressure from coughing, laughing, sneezing exercise or lifting something heavy. Though, it may be embarrassing at times, it is critical to seek medical advice as it is a TREATABLE condition.
Stress incontinence can affect both men and women. Some common women’s health issues that can cause urinary incontinence are pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and a hysterectomy, while a male can develop urinary incontinence due to an enlarged prostate or following prostate surgery.
How can Physical Therapy help?
Here at Vital Physical Therapy, we understand that seeking treatment for urinary incontinence can be challenging. However, we believe that people should not have to live with it as it can be treated with specific pelvic floor exercise, manual therapy techniques, bladder retraining etc. Our skilled Physical Therapists will do a detailed assessment of your condition including pelvic floor muscles, lower back, hips etc. and based on the findings, will guide you through every step of the recovery.
Our goal is to:

- Help with the urinary urgency/frequency
- Decrease/eliminate the use of protective pads
- Educate you in bladder training
- Resolve any associated pelvic floor, lower pack, hip muscle imbalance that may be contributing/aggravating the problem
- Help you return to enjoying your life and participate in leisure activities with friends and family without worrying about your bladder control
PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY CAN ALSO HELP WITH PELVIC PAIN/PELVIC HEALTH
Pelvic Pain can occur in both females and males due to a variety of reasons, including overactive/underactive muscles, ligament involvement and nerve irritation of the pelvic floor.
Symptoms may include:
- Back Pain
- Decreased mobility in hips and/or back
- Imbalances when walking
- Urinary changes
- Pain with sexual activity
- Constipation
- Pain with bowel movement/straining
- Difficulty walking/sitting/ sleeping and doing activities of daily life
Pelvic dysfunction is usually not readily evaluated and diagnosed. Vital Physical Therapy has experienced physical therapists who will comprehensively evaluate the pelvic floor externally and create a program specifically tailored to your individual needs so that you can return to the activities you enjoy in life with minimal to no restrictions.
If left untreated what are the risks?
It is important to seek advice from a professional as living with urinary incontinence or pelvic health issues can prevent you from doing what you love. If left untreated, pelvic floor dysfunction can significantly decrease your quality of life. It will restrict your activities, cause embarrassment, and limit social interactions as well as can increase risks or falls in older adults if they are rushing to the toilet.
